Today's word is wholesale. Professor Wobble: wholesale is the price before the shop, up one point three percent in September. Bitsy: why so much? Gasoline, up twenty point three percent in one month; goods rose two point six percent, the most since the series began in 2009. Mort: take out food and energy and goods rose point three (services up 0.8%, core 0.5%). Brought to you by the number twenty point three.
September's 1.3% jump in wholesale prices was mostly fuel: goods prices rose 2.6%, the biggest rise since the series began in 2009, with more than 80% of it from a 10.8% jump in energy as wholesale gasoline rose 20.3% in one month; goods excluding food and energy rose only 0.3%, though services rose 0.8% and core prices excluding food, energy and trade rose 0.5%.
