Seven Years of Prices

Oct 15, 2026 · 0:34

Word arrived of seven years of prices. Ambrose: gasoline and eggs up sixty-four percent, houses sixty. Pim: sixty-four eggs, I shall name them all! Prudence: or so one man's tally says. Mrs. Applewhite: new cars, only twenty-three percent! The Toll Keeper: in July the same table had gasoline at forty-nine (official figures put gasoline up 34.2% in one year). Prudence: seven years, and the slowest climber rose near a quarter.

One market commentator's tally of seven years of price rises puts gasoline and a dozen eggs up 64%, home prices up 60% and new cars, the smallest riser, up 23%; the same table he posted in July had gasoline up 49%, and official figures show gasoline up 34.2% in the year to September alone.
