A Close Quarter Isn't a Close Year

Oct 14, 2026 · 0:32

Tommy: Ford leads Hyundai by nearly ninety thousand cars this year (89,700 through the third quarter). Dougie: race over. Scarf: both still trail GM and Toyota. Town hall: Hyundai's twelve hundred cars behind, emergency meeting! Abe: Mayor, is Hyundai one company or two? Mayor Dithers: yes. Ford says Hyundai and Kia sell separately anyway. Tommy learned something today: a close quarter isn't a close year. Dougie: Lincoln's down eighteen percent, I'll take two.

The quarter was a dead heat but the year is not: Ford leads Hyundai by roughly 89,700 vehicles for 2026 so far, both sit behind GM and Toyota, and Ford argues the race is not even real because Hyundai and Kia sell as separate brands in the US; its own Lincoln brand fell 18%.
