France's students asked for schools; the state already owes 119% of its output against the EU's 60% reference. Lenders now charge 4.914% for ten years, up 139 basis points in a year and near a 24-year high. The 2027 budget freezes teachers' pay instead. They charge for love.
France cannot easily answer its students' demand for more school spending because it is already borrowing dear: its deficit was 5.1% of GDP last year against the EU's 3% limit, its debt reached 119% of GDP, and its ten-year bond yield at 4.914% is up 139 basis points in a year, close to a 24-year high and among the highest in the G7.
