Tommy: inflation's 3.7%, but groceries only 1.8%. Dougie: groceries are a rip-off, I'm eating gas. Town hall: prices are up, ban the store! Abe: Mayor, what got cheaper? Mayor Dithers: air. Abe: beef fell 1% in September and milk 2%; used cars are down 1.5% on the year. Tommy learned something today: it's gas, up 34.2%, and airfares, up 22.4%, not groceries. Dougie: then I'll fill up on beef.
Behind September's 3.7% inflation, which energy drove with a 20.4% rise, several everyday prices barely moved or fell over the year: groceries up 1.8% and down 0.1% in the month, with beef down 1.0% and milk down 2.0% in September alone, new cars up 0.6%, used cars down 1.5% and medical goods down 3.3%; the inflation is at the pump and the airport, with gasoline up 34.2% and airfares up 22.4%.
