The Case of the Line It Can't Close Above

Oct 14, 2026 · 0:32

Case file: Apple touched $5 trillion on Tuesday, the sixth time this year, and has never closed above it. The Bubble: five trillion is a price, about $342 a share ($342.61). Wren: touched six times, closed above it never; Tuesday's close was $341.27, after a peak above $348. Nightjar: a touch is not a close. Wren: six knocks, nobody home.

Apple's shares have traded above the $5 trillion mark six times this year, on July 28 and 29, September 22 and 28, and October 12 and 13, and have never closed above it: on Tuesday, after new smart-home hardware gave the stock its final push, they peaked above $348 and closed at $341.27, just under the $342.61 a share that equals $5 trillion.
