Dot: eggs fell thirty-nine point seven percent; air fares rose. Lorraine: what do we eat, dear? Gus: eggs. Forever. By candlelight.

Take gasoline out of September's wholesale price jump and prices were still rising: core producer prices excluding food and energy rose 0.7% in the month and 5% over the year, up from 4.6% in August, with electricity, vegetables, shipping and air fares dearer; goods prices rose 2.6%, the most since that series began in 2009, while egg prices fell 39.7% and fuel retailers' margins fell 30.3%.
