Today's Word Is Adjustment

Oct 16, 2026 · 0:29

Today's word is adjustment. Professor Wobble: Social Security checks rise three point six percent next year. Bitsy: why? Professor Wobble: prices rose, so checks rise too; seventy-five more dollars a month, on average! Mort: Medicare's premium may take six sixty; most keep three percent. Brought to you by three point six.

Social Security benefits rise 3.6% next year, the biggest cost-of-living raise since 2023, about $75 a month for the average beneficiary, driven mainly by persistently high inflation; the Medicare Part B premium that is usually deducted from the cheque is projected to rise $6.60 to $209.50, leaving most beneficiaries a net raise of at least 3%, and the maximum earnings taxed for Social Security rise to $192,300 from $184,500.
