Today's word is decompile: taking a finished game apart. Professor Wobble: Xbox's boss says fans are rebuilding old games for new machines. Bitsy: why doesn't Xbox stop them? She calls it good for players, even if it costs Xbox, and she started a lab, Xbox Labs, to try it. Mort: nobody's said what happens to those who didn't ask. Brought to you by the word decompile.
Xbox chief Asha Sharma told staff that fans have been decompiling games and rebuilding them to run in browsers and on hardware they were never made for, called that unmistakably good for players even where it challenges Xbox's business model, and set up a small group, Xbox Labs, to experiment with it; the company has not said what it will do about unauthorized use of its games.
