A Bigger Bill Than the Budget

Oct 16, 2026 · 0:33

Juno: neoclouds got dumped; CoreWeave down seventeen percent in a week! Mochi: chill; Nebius fell eighteen, Nvidia about two hundred seventy billion. Queen Honeycomb: Gartner says owners need eight point five trillion in revenue; spending may reach three point six; over four trillion short. Tock: eighty percent won't stay solo by twenty-thirty! Juno: quest lesson, bigger bill than budget.

Behind the slide in AI data-centre bonds is a gap Gartner has put a number on: data-centre owners need about $8,500 billion of revenue through the end of 2030 to cover their investment and financing, while AI spending by consumers and companies may reach at most $3,600 billion, leaving more than $4,000 billion of assets at risk of write-downs; Gartner forecasts that 80% of 'neocloud' providers could cease to operate independently by 2030, and in one week CoreWeave's shares fell 17%, Nebius 18% and Nvidia lost about $270 billion of market value.
