Through a Cousin

Oct 14, 2026 · 0:31

Tommy: a blacklisted Chinese firm kept buying top American chips. Dougie: through a cousin; the blacklist named the parent, not the subsidiary. Abe: Mayor, who got blacklisted this year? Mayor Dithers: everyone. Abe: none in ten months, the longest gap in eighteen years. Tommy learned something today: at least $5.6 billion of advanced tech went through a subsidiary to data centers serving Chinese firms. Scarf: Nvidia says it doesn't support diverted products; the firms did not respond. Dougie: neither does my cousin.

Inspur, a Chinese server maker the US blacklisted in 2023, kept getting top Nvidia technology through subsidiaries the blacklist did not name: by trade records, its US arm Aivres exported at least $5.6 billion of advanced technology to Southeast Asia from April 2024 to February 2026, more than $3 billion of it computers with Blackwell chips, to data centers serving Chinese firms including Alibaba and ByteDance; Nvidia says it does not support diverted products, the companies did not respond, and no firm has been added to the US entity list for ten months, the longest gap in 18 years.
